Nowara appoints its first group of Area Coordinators

 

Beirut - Friday, May 13, 2011. Within the framework of the project “Strengthening women’s capacities in rural areas’’, financed by Apulia region and the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari (MAIB), the National Observatory for Women in Agriculture and Rural Areas (Nowara), organized a meeting with Nowara’s first group of area coordinators at the end of which, the ladies, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation and received a laptop. The event was held under the patronage of Dr. Hussein Hajj Hassan, Minister of Agriculture with the presence of Mrs. Wafaa Dika Hamza, Head of Nowara Program and Mr. Samir Chami, acting Director General of Ministry of Agriculture.

Minister Hajj Hassan assured the woman’s role in rural development and the advancement of the entire society. He announced that he submitted to the Cabinet , a clear cut plan intended to support the cooperative societies , in a transparent framework based on long terms loans with low interest rates and a manifest support for successful and leading associations. An action, which, will be concretized, by providing those cooperatives, with equipments and supplies, to enhance their work. That strategy also, strives to rise above any political framework or politicization of those associations, so as to ensure their activities are restricted to a purely collaborative environment in order to achieve the desired goals and objectives. Hajj Hassan also pointed that all the ministry facilities, mainly agronomic technical institutes and their equipments at the service of development goals, by launching training programs in the fields of rural industrialization and enhancement of women and community competencies in rural areas.

In her turn, Mrs. Dikah introduced the project background and objective. She also explained the coordinators selection’s criterion and gave a brief overview on Nowara’s observatory goals and training program (for more information on the objective of the appointment of those coordinators, click here). Representing the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari, Mr. Enrico Azone, congratulated the participants for their work and announced the sustainment of work via a new project financed by the Italian Cooperation Office, that will see the light in the very near future.

In the end, Ministers Hajj Hassan and Mrs Dikah Hamze offered laptops to the newly appointed coordinators.
