Background: One of Nowara main objectives is to support leading economic initiatives implemented by women in the different rural areas in Lebanon, in addition to introducing information technology as a vital tool to increasing women access to knowledge and information they need in their activities.
Nowara is starting the program “success stories” utilizing information technology as an effective tool to spread information on the status of women living in remote areas hence contribute to identify their economic activities, what they produce and draw attention of the concerned actors to the realities, needs and potentialities of women as main contributors to economic and social rural communities.
“Success stories”
- in economic initiatives from informal or marginal sectors implemented by women from different rural areas in Lebanon, in numerous fields in agriculture, agro food, traditional Lebanese cuisine, artisan , agri - tourism and ecotourism…etc.
- about women who started from minute resources, but most importantly from their strong will and deep beliefs in their potentialities.
- challenging social traditions and norms that tends to confine women I the house boundaries.
- women who decided to leave a mark in their fields of business hoping to trigger other women to join them in their endeavors to the economic and development world.
These leading initiatives were collected directly from women producers and will be part of Nowara Data base on women entrepreneurs which is regularly updated hoping it becomes a reference to all concerned actors in rural development.
The stories are edited in a narrative and simple style where a new story will be published on our website on bi-weekly basis.
The first story is launched on the Occasion of Mother’s Day on the 21st of March 2011.
